Yesterday I heard the news that Elegant Bride and Modern Bride Magazines are closing their doors. As my mass communication professor would say "Welcome to media convergence". These magazines used to be a few of the only sources for wedding inspiration that existed for brides (other than going to your cousin's, friend's, sister's wedding). They then found competitors in the blog world. So, how incredibly ironic is it that I first found out this news on a wedding blog. I think both the blog world and the print world are equally saddened by the news though. Blogs take their inspiration from magazines. I mean blogs are basically digital magazines or, like in my case, journals. Obviously there are very large differences. Brides (or let's face it, anyone who loves weddings) will no longer be able to sit on an airplane and thumb through a magazine happily passing the flight time. Places without internet connectivity won't have access to these new online "magazines". Also, most girls know how exciting it is to open your mailbox and see a wonderful new shiny magazine there for you to read!
So to continue with the irony... here are a few bridal blogs that have blogged about the closing of these magazines. Can these blogs ever replace their former printed relatives? I sure hope they figure out how!
