More visitors!

Yesterday Levi got to meet his cousins... well actually my cousins.  It was fun to see them interact with him.  I was a couple of years younger than Shelby is now when she was born, so it's sort of fun to see things come full circle.  I guess I was a little surprised that Zachary wanted to hold Levi first.  Shelby said she was afraid of getting spit up on... not sure if that was just a cover or not!

Thanks Sherrie, Gary, Shelby and Zachary for the yummy Papasitos and coming to visit Levi!! Sorry he slept so much, but don't worry... this summer he will be much more fun!

We Made It!

Dear Levi,
We did it! We made it to your two week birthday! Every day Daddy and I ask each other if you are really ours.  Partly because we are still in disbelief that you are here and partly because you look like neither of us.  Not that we mind.  We just think it's funny.  This week you had your first doctor's appointment.  You weighed 8lbs. 2oz. which put you back over your birth weight. You didn't get any taller... but that's okay. You started eating from a bottle and kept us up a few nights as well.  We will let it slide... since you are only two weeks old. You eat about 110ml (just under 4 ounces) each feeding and you have continued to impress us with your marathon pooping skills.  We love everything about you and think you are the cutest baby in the world.  And of course we have to say... you STILL have red hair!

Love, Mommy

Here are a few outtakes from our two week photo shoot.  I haven't said much about what Lucy thinks about Levi... but to say the least, she's in love and also completely terrified of him at the same time.  She wants to be with him all the time, until he moves and then she runs away as fast as she can.  She does like to lick his feet.  Also, we realize now that we were remiss in naming our child a name that starts with the same letter as our dog.  Sorry Lucy and Levi, your names will forever be interchangeable.

Baby steps

Yesterday Levi started taking naps in his bed... And it went so well he slept in his bed last night. We were grateful to have our room back. Plus babies are very noisy sleepers. I think we all slept better. I even let William sleep through the 7am feeding. I wish he could return the favor. But alas this dang pumping keeps that from happening. I did only pump every 4 hours last night. I figure if I were nursing and Levi was eating that often it would work. So I'm just pretending that's what is happening.

Today we went to babies r us and chilis. It was nice to get out of the house. When we got back we just put Levi still in his carseat in the crib. I mean you know you aren't supposed to wake a sleeping baby! He didn't seem to mind.

In other news I'm dreading William going to drill on Friday. I know we will survive but I've enjoyed William being home and all his help. We will miss him a lot.

Floor Time and Visitors

Well... we are definitely through the honeymoon period.  William and I are groggy parents of a newborn. It is still going pretty well, but we are coming to realize what Levi's limits are and just how much sleep he needs.  We have discovered that if he isn't back asleep after waking up to eat in less than 45 minutes then we will have a screaming infant for the next 4 hours.  So... we have been making sure that doesn't happen with some enforced nap times around here. Luckily, Levi has taken to a schedule nicely.  He eats like clockwork at 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm, 11pm and 3am.  We will let him sleep through his 3am feeding whenever he wants, but obviously right now he still likes eating every four hours.  He currently eats a little over 3 ounces of a breast milk/ forumla mix by bottle.  Yes, by bottle.  I guess you could say that we are abandoning the breast feeding... it just wasn't working for us.  And I'm of the firm belief that this isn't something to stress about.  So we aren't... we are just giving him a bottle.  Learning to take a bottle is a little difficult for a tiny baby... but he's doing well.  He has finally realized that he can stop the flow which makes things a little easier and neater for all involved.

Here are some pictures of Levi enjoying a little floortime and also some visitors... he dressed up especially for them.

What does your diaper say now?

William and I have really enjoyed getting messages from Levi at each diaper changing. At the shower Dana, Nicole and Jonna threw me, everyone wrote on the front of newborn sized diapers. They were funny at the time. But they are even funnier now when we are changing him in the middle of the night. This is a super good idea for anyone else throwing a shower in the future!

One disclaimer: even though they used permanent marker a few of the diapers have bled when they got wet... And let's face it, diapers get wet. We aren't bothered by this... But just be careful what clothes you put your baby in while wearing a written on diaper!

Here are a few of them:
